Under Armour Announces Its New UA SpeedForm Smart Running Shoe Line
Under Armour saw much success with its Smart running shoe, Gemini 2 RE, so the company decided to take it to the next level. The UA SpeedForm is available in three styles, Gemini 3 RE, Europa RE and Velociti RE, providing more options to both female and male athletes. The shoes are embedded with UA Record Technology, so runners can track their progress and activity through the MapMyRun app.
The Smart Technology allows athletes on all skill levels to track workouts, while providing insight into muscular fatigue prior to starting a workout. This technology was only available to the elite runner until now, empowering athletes with performance advantages like no other.
The connected footwear is scheduled to rollout next year, distributing double the number of units to Europe, Middle East, Japan, China, New Zealand, Australia and the U.S.
The Velocity RE is designed for speed and will sell for $140. The Europa RE and Gemini 3 RE, designed for distance running, will sell for $160. The most notable feature is called “Jump Test”, which is capable of measuring muscle fatigue, before the period of training. Runners will be able to access the collected data from their smartphone or tablet, with the MapMyRun mobile app and Wi-Fi connection.
“We know one of the biggest problems runners face is pushing through pain and fatigue, leading to injury,” Mike Lee, chief digital officer, said in the announcement. He said the Jump Test will help runners avoid ‘training hangovers.’
The Under Armour UA SpeedForm shoe line will be unveiled at the Consumers Electronics Show scheduled for January 5-8 2017, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The shoes are expected hit stores nationwide by early February.
