Airbnb, an online marketplace for short-term lodging, and Vivint Smart Home, a provider of Smart Home services, establishes a partnership to provide Airbnb guests and hosts with a comprehensive Smart Home experience. The Airbnb marketplace connects consumers with unique accommodations in over 191 countries and 34,000 cities. The Vivint Home app will allow hosts to manage their properties remotely, with energy management, home security and keyless access.
“The Airbnb platform makes sharing your home simple and convenient,” said Lex Bayer, head of business development at Airbnb. “The Vivint Smart Home Technology makes checking in guests hassle free, while at the same time providing hosts with more tools to save energy and provide peace of mind, while hosting.”
Remote Key Access
Hosts will simply need to link their Airbnb account with the Vivint mobile app to remotely manage their rental properties. Not only will guests benefit from Vivint, but guests will also, because they will be provided with an electronic key code that can be utilized to unlock the guest room. To simplify things for the host and guest, Vivint will take on the responsibility of activating the PIN, when the guest checks in and deactivating the PIN at checkout. This will eliminate the need for a mechanical key exchange.
Vivint Doorbell Camera
The Vivint Home system includes a Smart doorbell camera, so Airbnb hosts can remotely verify guests. Hosts will be able to access a real-time video feed and then communicate with the guest, with the two-way communication feature. Guests will also be able to contact the host 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, by pressing the doorbell.
Reduce Energy Usage
Hosts could potentially reduce energy usage between guest stays, with the Vivint Element Thermostat. Vivint also works with the Nest Learning Thermostat. The Vivint Element Thermostat will connect with all the Smart gadgets on the Home Automation network, so it will detect guest arrivals and departures, adjusting the temperature accordingly to reduce energy usage.
Vivint provides short-term property owners and homeowners with security monitoring services. Airbnb hosts will have the option of enrolling in Vivint security services, so the company will monitor their rental properties, with motion detectors, Smart Locks, window and door sensors.
Most Airbnb hosts do not reside in the same city, state or country as their rental properties. This makes it extremely difficult to perform any maintenance tasks, so they rely on public service providers. With this said, Vivint will professionally install Smart Home devices into hosts’ rental properties, along with integrating and securing them.
“We are delighted to partner with Airbnb to offer our comprehensive Smart Home services to all hosts in North America,” said Alex Dunn, president of Vivint Smart Home. “Giving Airbnb hosts the convenience and security of a Smart Home helps them provide the best guest experience possible.”
