The first smart lock to earn nationwide attention was created by August Home. Other versions have followed but most have failed to impress consumers, with the exception of the Yale Assure and Schlage Connect.
The August Smart Lock First Generation was followed by the second and third Generations, both doing exceptionally well on the market. In 2017, August released another version of its third generation smart lock, moving from a circular design to a more modern design. The lock comes with a Connect Wi-Fi Module (required) and DoorSense Sensor.
The August Smart Lock 3rd Generation is compatible with iOS 11 or greater and most Android devices. It is also compatible with other deadbolt brands, including EMTEK ASSA ABLOY and Yale. Unfortunately, the lock will not support Medeco deadbolts.
The smart lock is 2.7” W X 4.8” H X 2.1” D. It weighs less than a pound at 15.5 ounces. The retrofit design ensures a 10-minute installation, as the lock fits over the existing deadbolt. So, you can continue to utilize the keys for your existing deadbolt. Four AA batteries power the lock.
