Google Home has a bit of catching up to do to reach Amazon Echo’s functionality level. However, Google is striving to add new third-party integrations as fast as possible, with the recent additions being Honeywell and Belkin WeMo.
Google Home customers can now control their Belkin WeMo and Honeywell Smart devices through Assistant on their Google Home voice-automation speaker. Belkin’s Smart product line up includes bulbs, switches and cameras. The Amazon Echo integration with WeMo was announced in 2015, beginning with the WeMo Light Switch.
The Honeywell Smart product line includes a range of thermostats and home surveillance systems. The Amazon Echo integration with Honeywell Smart gadgets was announced in March 2016.
The Google Home offers a comprehensive list of third-party products that can be controlled through the Assistant. Users can easily add these products by accessing the Google Home app on their mobile device. All you need to do is access settings, Home Control and click on the “+” feature to add the new product.
This functionality works flawlessly through Google Assistant (only available on Pixel smartphones), but is only supported on the Home speaker. A similar Smart Home control will be coming to the Pixel in the near future.
Google Home partners with a long list of music services, including Spotify, Google Play Music, Pandora and TuneIn. It also partners with various third-party Smart Home systems, including Samsung SmartThings, Uber, Philips Hue, Netflix and Nest, along with the DIY automation platform IFTT.
